A Word in Due Season

Scripture Glen?

Joie Pirkey August 28 at 12:22pm
In Glen Beck’s awesome event this afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial in his 11:15 a.m. speech around 11:20 he said that the historical speeches and founding documents are American Scripture. He went on to say that they are scripture like any other scripture. He said that they are alive like any other scripture.

Let me begin by saying I love Glen Beck. I often pray for him to be converted to Christianity and the doctrine of the Apostles out of the cult of Mormonism. I do enjoy the way that he names names and exposes links and gives me tons of things to Google and educate myself with. He does a good job giving a perspective the fosters educating oneself.

With all that being said, I also realize that he is ‘preaching’ a number of very Christian ideas, scriptures, sentiments and many Christians are listening wholeheartedly. But I want to warn you brothers and sisters of the Faith to keep your discerning ears up when you are taking in his Fox News Shows, the speeches, the books. He is not filled with the Holy Spirit and he is not correct in the fundamental tenets of Christianity. I believe that it’s fine to listen to him for our political information and also to get up to speed with what’s going on in the world, but please, be very careful when Glen Beck begins to ‘preach’. Not sure if you have noticed but it’s been increasing lately. He is not a Christian. He is in a very large cult that distorts scripture at it fundamental core doctrines.

I have been hearing the nagging whisper of the Holy Spirit instructing me against my judgment to watch Beck carefully for Biblical error. Then this morning as I had eagerly awaited the August 28th Event at the Memorial I heard him say this: the historical speeches and documents are the scripture of America. They are alive like any other scripture.

I didn’t put that in quotes because I am not positive on the actual verbiage but I am sure that was his clear sentiment. I can’t quote it yet because he’s still speaking as I type.

But this very serious error in equating the scripture with historical documents or any other even religious documents is at the core of what God is speaking about recently, the authority of Scripture. No other text, NO NOT ONE, is like the Word of God. The Word of God is Christ.

John 1 says: 1 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,[a]
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

The Word of God is our ultimate authority. If it is not yours then you are not standing right before the God of this universe. And repentance is your only course to freedom.

To those of you who are strong in the faith be careful, be vigilant, be like the Bereans and study everything you hear being claimed as the words of God.

  1. The most powerful forms of fiction arise from partial truth. If you take something that is basically built on a true word, then twist is slightly, you make the entire concept false. This is where false doctrines come from. Remember, Glen is a Mormon. What he is preaching is actually a “hollywood” version of Mormonism, wrapped in patriotism. He may ride the tide of his popularity to his personal fame and fortune, but the wave ends with the cultural acceptance from the non discerning church that is completely ignorant in their understanding of Scripture. He may be paving the way for Mitt Romney to run for president, as a Mormon. You are discerning truth from error. Would you eat a slice of pizza, cut into 32 slices if only 1 slice was poison? I think I’ll pass. And yes, I have friends that read his stuff, listen to his programs a lot more than Scripture. Doesn’t that make him truly an ‘American Idol’?

  2. Oh my gosh, I have the exact same sentiments and concerns about Glenn. I love him dearly and pray for him as well, but when I heard the scripture of America phrase, a red flag went up. Also, he says he is a Christian when we know he’s Mormon. I believe his heart is in the right place and his a love of God, his family and country are genuine, but his theology and religious beliefs aren’t. He seemingly surrounds himself with Christians, so maybe one of ’em will lead him to the one and only true God. Good to know we’re on the same page Joie!

  3. It’s interesting to observe that the combination of being a Mormon and not being filled with the Holy Spirit is the mix that results in the good things that Glenn Beck is doing whereas a whole host of individuals with the “better” mix of fundamental/evangelical/being filled with the Holy Spirit Christianity aren’t producing the same good things.

  4. Glenn Beck and others are actually preaching a false revival of conservatism and cultural values, equating such a movement to the great awakening. It is a blend of religion, conservatism, patriotism and an idolization of the nation’s humanistic ideals, the military, and America’s greatness, along with a message that taps into people’s fear and anger, and it is a powerful deception that is strongly taking hold in the church.

It is raising up the weeds that choke the church with the cares of this world and with worldly mindedness, instead of the gospel and the work of the real and lasting kingdom we are actually a part of.

  5. Glenn Beck is very arrogant man who uses his profession to humiliate other persons and ideas.Such people should be confronted when they spread their lies.Did you notice that the talk shows are only one way street,if the caller doesn’t agree with the hosts’s agenda ,he is cut off.So is the media. Therefore voices like the blog etc should play their role. And we people should support them.

  8. To Wading across and Red state.
Would it not be good for all those who call themselves somewhat attached to religion or God and Jesus to do Jesus and faith favour to find out what was the real message and ministry of Jesus? To find out how gospel has manmade sentences and ideas in it.It is not very difficult.See what contradicts with what Jesus said, that is manmade.Make two columns one what is clear and unambigous and other what is unclear and ambigous. So the second column be seen against first and rejected then that is gospel and pure teachings of Jesus. And what kind of word of God is this, that is written by 40 authors, over 1600 years period.?Jesus was an educated man who himself wrote what was given to him in Aramaic yet his enemies destroyed both the language and text.WHile Muhammad was an uneducated man yet both his language and the text of Quran are intact. Is there divine design in it.Does God want the christians to read QUran. After all Quran doesn’t contradicts the proposed first column as mentioned earlier it contradicts the second column.

    • Jay, you said:

“See what contradicts with what Jesus said, that is manmade.”

Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.’ So the Jews said to him, ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’ So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple” (John 8.56-59).

But the Qur’an says, “And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah” (5.46).

Jesus said he was existing before Abraham and, he said when he said “I am” just what the Jews understood him to be saying, that he is the LORD GOD! Twice the qur’anic verse said the Law came before Jesus. So, Jay, would you say the Qur’an is man-made since it contradicts what Jesus said?

  9. Doug,
    Thanks for replying.
Now what Quran says is openly and clearly true.Jesus himself said I have come to revive the law,and wouldn’t change even a dot.(meaning I have come to revive the law given to Moses because it has changed)
This is what Quran says.I don’t see any contradiction in it.
All the prophets came from God with laws for the people they were sent to and because this law was from same one God for the same mankind( though living in different places at different times)so the law has been pretty much the same.Just as Jesus said I have come to revive the law(given to Moses) so did Muhammad say I am doing the continuation of work of Jesus.Muhammad even said Islam’s other name is religion of Abraham.By the way Muhammad named his only son(who didn’t live long)Abraham.
Now saying of Jesus that “I am before Abraham is” can be seen as ,that Jesus like any other soul was present in heaven before any of them came on earth as human. You and I too.
Doug there is a difference between interpretation(explanation) and proof. If you see me in front of bar and tell my family that Jay drinks is only explanation or so called connecting of dots but is not proof.Proof is the blood level of ALcohol.Religion is serious business. You can neither confuse explations with Proofs nor you can replace one with the other.Thats why in religion there is this saying that”Come let us reason together”because religion seems to derailfrom originality with time due to the peoples’ interpretation influenced by many factors.Quran is that law that Jesus wanted to but couldn’t revive due to thanks the Jews and the local govt of that time.
